Indians Explode for 13 Runs in Victory Over Reds

CLEVELAND, OH -- Jose Ramirez got the Cleveland bats going early when he turned on a 98 mph fastball, crushing a solo shot over the right centerfield wall. Following a 2-run fifth inning, the tribe came back in the 7th with an enormous 10-run inning, giving the Indians a comfortable 13-run lead. Carlos Carrasco gave the Indians a stellar performance in a 13-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Carlos "Cookie" Carrasco posted his second consecutive shutout, pitching 6.0 innings and giving up zero earned runs on one lone hit, striking out eight batters and walking four. Cleveland pitchers have now tossed 23 straight scoreless innings and counting.

The Cleveland Indians found themselves in a tight 3-0 ballgame going to the bottom half of the seventh, before unleashing a 10-spot on the Reds. Cincinnati reliever Jose De Leon struggled to find a rhythm, walking four batters in one inning, including three batters that were walked home with the bases loaded. Carlos Santana got the rally going when he forced his fourth walk of the game, bringing in Cesar Hernandez. The slumping bat of Franmil Reyes woke up in the 7th, driving in two runs on a bloop single to shallow right field. Jose Ramirez finished off the huge inning with his second longshot of the game. Ramirez hit each of his two home runs from both sides of the plate, the second time this season he has pulled off this feature, and the sixth time in his career.

Carlos Carrasco earned his second win of the year, moving to 2-1. Luis Castillo was hit with his second loss of the season, dropping to a 2-0 record. Cleveland will head to the Southside of Chicago to begin a series with the White Sox. First pitch on Friday evening is set for 8:10 pm ET at Guaranteed Rate Field.
