CLEVELAND,OH--- The Guardians hosted the Mariners in game 2 of Cleveland's first home series of the year, with the largest attendance for the 2nd home game of the year since 2015 with 17,489. The Guardians came in to Saturday night's game batting .301 with runners in scoring position, they ended up being 3 for 12 with RISP Saturday night. Cal Quantrill was the starter, he would pitch 5 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs. Quantrill gave up all 3 of his runs through the first 2 innings, 2 off Eugenio Suarez. Quantrill would lose his first regular season game at Progressive Field in his career.
After those runs, Quantrill would eventually put together a nice 4th and 5th inning, consecutively striking out the Mariners in order. In relief for Quantrill we would see Eli Morgan come in and put down the first 6 Seattle batters he faced. The Guardians would get their first run of the game in the 5th inning thanks to Myles Straw hitting a double that would bring in Andres Gimenez to score. Along with that RBI, Straw would steal his 6th base of the year on his 6th attempt of the year. Gimenez also had a good night at the plate with 2 doubles.
The 7th inning was a crucial opportunity that the Guardians unfortunately couldn't take advantage off, with the second run of the game being driven in by a bloop RBI hustle double from all-star 3rd basemen Jose Ramirez. It was a bloop base hit that was dropped by Seattle 2nd baseman Teoscar Hernandez running into right field with his back turned to the plate. That would load the bases for Josh Naylor who would fly out followed by a groundout by Oscar Gonzalez. The Guardians left 12 runners on base.
The Guardians continue the home series on Easter Sunday at 1:40 pm with Zach Plesac on the mound. You can listen on WTAM 1100 AM, 106.9 FM, the free iHeartRadio app and HERE
