Twins' starter Dylan Bundy struggled to locate his off speed, and the Guardians made him pay. Cleveland rookie outfielder Oscar Gonzales jumped on two separate hanging curveballs, launching both over the fence for his first career multi home run game. After jumping ahead to a 7-0 lead, the Guardians' defense began to look lackluster as the Twins answered with four runs of their own. Cleveland's bullpen was able to limit the damage against the Twins in the closing innings to secure a 7-6 win.
Cal Quantrill has been granted with an incredible amount of run support during his current win streak of 8 straight decisions, and the support continued on Friday night. The Cleveland right hander gave up just one earned run on 9 hits through 5 full innings of work.
The Guardians and Twins will clash on Saturday evening for game two of the weekend series. The first pitch is set for 7:15 pm ET at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
