SAN DIEGO, CA -- Cal Quantrill took took the hill against his former big league club, and was locked in for the entirety of his outing. Cleveland's right hander tossed 7 innings of shutout baseball against the Padres. All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez went yard twice on the Guardians' way to a 7-0 victory to sweep the two-game series.
Jose Ramirez put his team ahead early on a solo homer in his first at bat of the game in the first inning, and would launch another solo shot in the 4th inning. Cleveland rookie outfielder Oscar Gonzales sent out his fifth home run of the season on a solo bomb to left field. Steven Kwan broke the game wide open on a 2-RBI single, scoring both Luke Maile and Owen Miller to make it a 6-0 game.
Cal Quantrill pitched seven brilliant innings for the visiting Guardians, giving up zero runs on 5 hits, striking out 6 batters while allowing just one walk. Bryan Shaw and Enyel De Los Santos combined for two innings of shutout relief, allowing a lone hit.
The Cleveland Guardians will head to Seattle to continue their west-coast road trip. First pitch on Thursday afternoon is set for 4:10 pm ET at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.
