ST. PETERSBURG, FLA -- Cleveland's ace Shane Bieber got off to a shaky start in the opening inning but was able to tip-toe out of it with limited damage. After giving up one run in the first, Bieber locked it in and was nearly untouchable for the remainder of his outing. Cleveland jumped ahead of the Rays in the 5th inning on a two-run homer off of the bat of Jose Ramirez. Cleveland went on to shut the door on Tampa Bay to secure a 4-1 win.

Jose Ramirez led the offensive charge for the Guardians on Friday night, driving home 3 RBI on two hits. Andres Gimenez drove in the other run for Cleveland on an RBI double to right field to score Owen Miller in the 4th inning.

Shane Bieber finished the game on Friday with a final line of one earned run on 5 hits, striking out 8 batters while walking a pair in 7 total innings of work. Cleveland's A;;-Star closer Emmanuel Clase made quick work of the Rays to earn his 22nd save of the campaign.

The Guardians and Rays will square off on Saturday afternoon for game two of the three-game weekend series. The first pitch is set for 1:10 pm ET at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida.
