CLEVELAND, OH -- The Indians saw a lot of hard hit outs the first time through the batting order, but made the correct adjustments, pouncing on Manning the second time around. The tribe busted the game open in the 3rd inning, driving in 4 runs all on base hits. Cleveland starter Cal Quantrill sliced through the Detroit lineup for 7 straight innings, setting up the Indians for a win. Emmanuel Clase was called upon when Detroit loaded the bases in the 9th, and went on to shut the door, with the Indians winning by the final score of 6-1.
After struggling in his previous start against the Tigers, Cal Quantrill looked like a completely different pitcher. The tribe right hander gave up 0 runs on 4 hits, striking out a career high 10 batters without issuing a walk in 7 innings of work.
The Indians beat the Tiger via small ball, ripping 15 total hits, scoring 6 without any home runs. Tribe leadoff man Myles Straw went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, making solid contact on every cut.
The Indians and Tigers will square off in game two of the weekend series on Saturday evening. First pitch is set for 7:10 pm ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
