Indians Begin Road Trip with 14-2 Shellacking Over Cardinals

ST LOUIS, MO -- The Cleveland Indians could not of asked for a better start to their six game road trip. The visiting tribe jumped out to a commanding four run lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Cleveland drove in an impressive 14 runs in a blowout game in St Louis, taking down the Cardinals by the final score of 14-2.

Franmil Reyes continues to have the hottest hand in the tribe lineup, chipping in a career best 5 RBI's during Friday's shellacking. Reyes launched a three-run opposite field blast in the first inning, marking a team-high 7 home runs. Carlos Santana and Tyler Naquin also went yard as the Indians could do no wrong in the batter's box.

Cleveland rookie Tristan McKenzie made his second career start and struggled a bit with command, but was able to piece together a decent start. The young righty continued to fall behind in counts, while showing the resilience to get out of jams.

St Louis starter Daniel Ponce de Leon threw just over 40 pitches while only being able to muster two outs before being pulled from the game.

The Cleveland Indians will square off against the St Louis Cardinals in game two of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon. Carlos Carrasco will take the mound for Cleveland, while St Louis is pitting their ace Jack Flaherty. First pitch is set for 1:15 pm ET at Busch Stadium in St Louis, Missouri.
