A Connecticut man says he fought off a bear with a shovel after it attacked his pet goat.
Joe Reda of Bethlehem says he heard the squeal of his goat and then saw the bear with the goat in its mouth when he went out to check on it.
Reda says he used the shovel as a spear but couldn't get the bear to run away.
The altercation lasted 40 minutes, and Reda was clawed in the chest, but with help from his bulldog named Heavy and his wife shooting a rifle into the sky twice, they finally got the bear to run off.
The goat, Cole, needed 80 stitches after the attack but is alive and recovering.
