The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers are set to face off in a historic Thursday Night Football game in Melbourne, Australia, marking the first regular-season NFL game held in the country. This game is the first of nine international games scheduled for the NFL this season.
The Rams, who have Super Bowl aspirations, strengthened their defense by acquiring pass rusher Myles Garrett and bringing Aaron Donald out of retirement. However, Donald will not play in the opener, as reported by 49ers Webzone. Meanwhile, the 49ers have revamped their offense with the addition of veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, alongside returning star Deebo Samuel.
Both teams have taken different approaches to the international game. The 49ers arrived in Melbourne early to acclimate to the time change, while the Rams opted for a quick turnaround, arriving just a day before the game. The outcome of this strategy remains to be seen, but both teams are prepared for a competitive matchup.
The game will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with fans from both teams expected to fill the stands. Following the game, the 49ers will return to the United States to prepare for their Week 2 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, while the Rams will face the New York Giants.
