An all-American women's final is within reach at the US Open as third-seeded Jessica Pegula and fourth-seeded Coco Gauff aim for spots in the championship match. On Thursday (September 10), Pegula will face top seed and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the first semifinal, while Gauff takes on second seed Elena Rybakina in the nightcap.
Pegula is looking to avenge past defeats to Sabalenka, who has bested her in the last two US Opens, including the 2024 final. Sabalenka, aiming for a third consecutive US Open title, has shown resilience throughout the tournament, overcoming a tough quarterfinal against Linda Noskova. Pegula, meanwhile, has been in fine form, reaching the semifinals after a gritty win over fellow American Emma Navarro.
In the other semifinal, Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, will face Rybakina, who is set to become the new World No. 1. Both players have been dominant, with Gauff winning 11 consecutive matches since the Cincinnati Open and Rybakina dropping just one set en route to the semifinals. Their clash promises to be a thrilling battle, with Gauff needing to find her consistent game early against Rybakina's powerful serve and baseline play.
The men's semifinals are scheduled for Friday night.
