For the first time in over 25 years, the FDA has approved a new sunscreen ingredient for the U.S. market.

The ingredient, called bemotrizinol, is safe for adults and children 6 months and older and meets standards for protecting from the sun's ultraviolet rays.

Bemotrizinol will be initially sold in the U.S. by DSM Nutritional Products under the brand name Parsol Shield, with an exclusivity period of 18 months before other manufacturers can use the ingredient.
