Sepsis, a life-threatening condition, occurs when the body's response to an infection causes damage to its own tissues and organs.

Vice President of Kyle Busch Companies, Dakota Hunter, shared the family's statement in a news release, highlighting the rapid and overwhelming complications that arose from the condition.

Busch, aged 41, was hospitalized after collapsing in a Chevrolet simulator in Concord, North Carolina, on Wednesday (May 20). According to a 911 call obtained by NBC News, Busch was experiencing shortness of breath, overheating, and coughing up blood. Despite these symptoms, he was reportedly alert when emergency responders arrived.

Busch's passing has sent shockwaves through the racing community. Known for his fierce competitiveness and skill, Busch leaves behind a legacy as a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and the record-holder for the most wins across NASCAR's top three series, with 234 victories. ESPN reports that all 39 drivers in Sunday's race will display a black No. 8 decal on their cars in his honor.
