He stated, "Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of." Michaels also cited safety concerns for his fans, band, and crew as reasons for his withdrawal.

Other artists, including Martina McBride, the Commodores, Morris Day, and Young MC, have also pulled out of the event. According to AOL, Michaels emphasized that his shows are about bringing people together through music and positivity, not politics.
