Officials have confirmed that popular attractions in Anaheim, California, including Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and Angel Stadium, remain safe and operational despite a hazardous materials situation at the GKN Aerospace facility in nearby Garden Grove. The incident involves a malfunctioning chemical tank that poses a risk of explosion, prompting mass evacuations in the surrounding area.

The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) has been working to stabilize the tank's temperature to prevent a disaster. The affected area is located approximately six miles from Disneyland and four miles from Knott's Berry Farm, both of which are outside the evacuation zone. Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm officials are actively monitoring the situation in collaboration with local authorities. According to a statement from Disneyland, there is currently "no impact" on park operations, and the resort remains open to guests.

Knott's Berry Farm has also confirmed that the park is not affected and has a safety team ready to assist guests if necessary. OCFA Division Chief Nick Freeman emphasized that while the situation is serious, the major entertainment venues are secure.

The crisis began on Thursday (May 21) when a 34,000-gallon tank of methyl methacrylate, a highly flammable chemical, overheated and began leaking. Efforts to contain the leak and cool the tank have been ongoing, with officials exploring alternative mitigation strategies to avoid a catastrophic failure. California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency, mobilizing state resources to support local efforts.

While the situation remains fluid, emergency personnel continue to monitor air quality, which has not shown hazardous levels of contaminants. The OCFA advises residents and commuters to avoid the designated evacuation zone and stay informed through official updates.

GKN Aerospace faces a class-action lawsuit and an investigation by the Orange County District Attorney's office. The company has stated that there are no reports of injuries and that their priority is the safety of employees, responders, and the surrounding community.
