Ohio has been removed from the federal list of states that do not meet clean air standards.

State and federal officials announced Wednesday that Ohio has now reached what the EPA calls attainment.

Leaders say the change could eventually help clear the way for ending E-check requirements in Northeast Ohio, though that would still require further action.

Lawmakers are now pushing a bill tied to that next step.
