(Cleveland) - North Coast Waterfront Development Corporation (NCWDC), in collaboration with the City of Cleveland, is launching a community survey and kicking off a community engagement process in the latest step towards determining the future of the Burke Lakefront Airport (“BKL”). BKL occupies 450 acres of land and two miles of shoreline along Cleveland’s downtown lakefront; The City of Cleveland and NCWDC are currently working with a number of partners to evaluate other land uses that could provide greater public access and economic opportunities for Clevelanders and visitors alike.
NCWDC is eager to hear from stakeholders and community members to better understand how the community thinks about BKL’s current use and potential future uses. NCWDC will continue to actively engage with Cleveland City Council, civic partners, the business community, and Clevelanders to evaluate potential future uses for BKL that increase public access and catalyze economic growth. In addition to the launch of this survey, NCWDC, in collaboration with the city, will be attending a series of community events all across the city to hear directly from residents.
“It is important that we include the voices of our residents into the ongoing conversations about the future of Burke Lakefront Airport,” says Scott Skinner, President and Executive Director of NCWDC. “The survey results will help to inform decisions about the future of Burke and could help shape a vibrant, accessible, and economically impactful waterfront.”
