Discord Requiring Age Verification

Discord is implementing a major change requiring all users globally to submit age verification via a face scan or submitted ID starting in March.

Age verification has become a focus for legislative bodies worldwide, prompting Discord to ensure that only adults see adult-designated content while teens are restricted to age-appropriate access.

All users will have their accounts updated to a teen designation by default, with updated communication settings, restricted access to age-gated spaces, and content filtering.

Adults will need to verify their age through a face scan or ID submission, with privacy protections promised by Discord for the age verification process.

The age verification rollout will begin in early March, following a data breach last fall that impacted Discord's third-party vendor handling user IDs for age verification.
