An Ohio lawmaker is looking to make Election Day a state holiday.
Democrat State Senator Kent Smith introduced Senate Bill 335 last month.
The measure would designate the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November as "Democracy Day." Smith says he believes many people would have more time off work to allow them to go to the polls if the legislation is adopted.
Designating Election Day as a holiday could also help more young people understand the importance of voting, according to the senator.
