Being A Night Owl Could Be Bad For Your Heart: A large study has found that people who are more active late at night have poorer overall heart health, with night owls facing a 16-percent higher risk of a first heart attack or stroke over 14 years. Researcher Sina Kianersi said night owls aren’t “doomed,” however. The problem is that they live in a world run by morning people, and “the mismatch between your internal clock and typical daily schedules” makes healthy habits harder to maintain. The study tracked over 300-thousand adults and found night owls, especially women, scored worse on key heart-health factors like sleep, diet, and smoking. Having to live in “a morning person’s world” can disrupt sleep, metabolism, and food choices for night owls. Researchers say that if night owls want to improve their health outcomes, they can focus on the basics like making sure they take care of diet and exercise, and avoid or stop smoking.
