Quick Tech Tip for Veterans' Day:
Check out Tech For Troops at techfortroops.org, which works to provide sustainable lifelong digital skills to under-resourced veterans and their families, through training, education, and technology
You can donate financially directly to the organization, or reduce e-waste in landfills by donating your used tech to Tech for Troops for responsible recycling. They are looking for working / non-working laptops, iPads and tablets, cell phones, and computer parts. Check the website for the full list of items they are accepting.
General Tech Tip: Winter is Here, Protect Your Tech!
* Don't leave your tech in the car:
Most of us don't like being out in the cold too long, unprotected. Your tech feels the same way. The things you take with you on the go, like your phone, laptop, and smartwatch, can be affected by outdoor temperatures. Leaving electronics in a parked vehicle is never recommended, especially when the mercury drops. The temperature in the vehicle can drop below the temperature the tech is built to withstand. If you absolutely must leave your devices in your vehicle, make sure they're hidden and bundled up.
A cold device needs to warm up to room temperature before you power it up or plug it in. Let it slowly warm up and avoid using external sources, like space heaters or hair dryers, in an attempt to speed up the process.
* Cold weather drains batteries:
Cold weather can impact your device's battery life, so keep a charger handy. It’s normal for the battery to drain faster than usual when operating in colder temperatures. This is especially true if you'll be enjoying outdoor winter sports, from hiking to skiing. You may want to bring a portable battery bank to charge them on the go if it's something you rely on like a phone.
However, the impact should be temporary and not affect the battery's life or capacity in the long term
