A shortage of air traffic controllers caused flight disruptions at airports around the country, including Los Angeles International Airport, where staffing problems led to flights being halted briefly.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported staffing-related delays at airports in Dallas and Austin, with delays averaging about 20 minutes and 40 minutes, respectively.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy predicted more flight delays and cancellations as air traffic controllers work without pay during the government shutdown, stating that controllers are "wearing thin."

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association mentioned that most controllers are working mandatory overtime six days a week without pay, leaving little time for a side job unless they call in sick to the FAA.

Union members planned to distribute leaflets at major airports across the U.S. to inform passengers about how the shutdown is negatively impacting the national aviation system and the workers.
