Ohio officials are preparing for major disruptions if federal SNAP benefits expire this weekend amid the ongoing government shutdown.

Governor Mike DeWine says the state is reviewing options to keep food assistance running for the 1.4 million Ohioans who rely on the program, including nearly 200,000 in Cuyahoga County.

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank says demand for help is already surging as families worry about losing benefits.

Cleveland City Council is urging state and federal leaders to restore funding or use contingency funds to keep aid flowing.

Lawmakers in Washington are considering a bill to fund SNAP during the shutdown temporarily.
