Cleveland City Council has asked state and federal leaders to ensure residents don't lose access to SNAP benefits during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

All 17 council members signed letters to Governor Mike DeWine and U.S. Senators Jon Husted and Bernie Moreno requesting immediate assistance.

The council says about 165,000 Cleveland residents rely on the food assistance program.

Lawmakers are urging swift action to prevent disruptions in aid if the shutdown continues.
