In a scene straight out of a movie, a group of thieves pulled off a daring daylight heist at the Louvre museum, stealing priceless Napoleonic jewels in a four-minute operation.
The thieves targeted the gilded Apollon Gallery, using a basket lift to enter the museum through a window, break two display cases, and flee on scooters with valuables including necklaces, earrings, a brooch, and two crowns.
One of the crowns, which belonged to Napolean III's wife Eugenie, holds more than 1,300 diamonds. It was later found broken.
The Louvre has faced security challenges due to overcrowding and understaffing, leading to vulnerabilities that were exploited by the thieves.
The heist has raised questions about the effectiveness of security measures at the Louvre and the need for further reinforcement.
The stolen jewels, with historical and cultural significance, may be difficult to recover as professional crews often alter them to avoid detection
