Cleveland's fire chief is being placed on paid leave by Mayor Justin Bibb.
Chief Anthony Luke has been receiving criticism for a message he shared on social media after the recent killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Luke shared an animated video on Sunday that featured a machine gun in front of a group of elephants with the caption 'bring out the next sacrifice.'
With the matter under investigation and the move against Luke announced, Bibb released a statement yesterday saying in part that Chief Luke's post crossed the line -- that it was insensitive, it was incendiary. It did not reflect the values of compassion, unity, and safety that every public safety leader in the city should embody.
Bibb says that we should never glorify violence -- that we should confront it, heal from it, and work tirelessly to prevent its next occurrence.
