Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart has died at the age of 90.

Swaggart had suffered cardiac arrest on June 15 and had been hospitalized in Baton Rouge, according to the family.

Born in 1935, Swaggart entered the ministry in 1955, eventually founding Jimmy Swaggart Ministries.

In the '80s, he was the top-rated televangelist in the country, with over 2 million tuning in to his sermons.

But a prostitution scandal in 1987 derailed his career, leading to his infamous 1988 "I have sinned" speech.

He was later detained by police in 1991 while driving with another suspected prostitute in the car.

After the scandals, Swaggart remained active in in his church, but kept a lower public profile.
