President Trump announced on his Truth Social site his directive to reopen and expand Alcatraz to house America's most violent offenders.
Trump emphasized the need to keep dangerous criminals away from society, stating, "For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than misery and suffering."
The President directed various government agencies, including the Bureau of Prisons, Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to work together on the reopening and expansion.
The decision to reopen Alcatraz comes amid Trump's efforts to send accused gang members to foreign prisons and his desire to utilize foreign prisons for American citizens.
