A popular dessert sold in stores in select states around the country, including in Ohio, has been recalled over the risk it poses for causing a "life-threatening" reaction in certain consumers.
Dessert Holdings LLC has recalled the 6oz/2ct Target brand Favorite Day Gourmet New York Style Cheesecake over a mislabeling error that caused pecans not to be declared on the product packaging, according to a recall notice shared March 19 by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
This mishap could cause those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to potentially experience a "serious or life-threatening" allergic reaction should they consume the product. The recall was initiated after a consumer complaint noting the discrepancy, and the issue has reportedly been corrected.
The recall affects the Target brand Favorite Day Gourmet New York Style Cheesecake with the lot code 25028A1 000039133 and UPC 0 85239 09690 1. No other lot numbers were affected. The affected product, packaged in a clear plastic clam shell and sold in Target stores, was sent to Target Distribution Centers in California, Florida, Iowa, Ohio and Texas between February 14 and March 7.
As of March 19, there have been no reported illnesses in connection to the recall. Customers are advised not to consume the product and to either contact Target Guest Relations at (800) 444-0680 for a full refund or contact Dessert Holdings Monday through Friday 8am-5pm MT at (720) 766-9060 or via marketing@dessertholdings.com.
