The new legislation would make law enforcement quotas for issuing traffic tickets illegal.

At a news conference today, a bipartisan group of state lawmakers announced the bill.

As the law stands now, Sheriffs or police chiefs can be retired on daily, weekly, or monthly quotas.

The lawmakers say the law takes officers away from combatting crimes in their area, and has the support of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association.
