President Trump is considering using 20% of the savings from Elon Musk's cost-cutting task force, DOGE, to provide direct payments to taxpayers.
The idea of a "DOGE dividend" first surfaced on social media and caught the attention of Musk, who promised to pitch the idea to Trump.
Any new tax refund check would require Congress approval, and experts believe a DOGE dividend would be much smaller than envisioned due to the challenges of finding $2 trillion in cuts.
