Former President Donald Trump has shared his thoughts following the resignation of Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle.

Talking with Fox News, Trump said that the agency had rejected requests for additional Secret Service agents.

"She never gave me proper protection, so I ended up having to take a bullet for democracy," Trump told Fox News Digital Tuesday after the resignation.

"Many requests were made by on-site Secret Service for more people, always with a turn down or no response," Trump added. "I have the biggest crowds in history, and they should be treated accordingly."

Cheatle announced her resignation on Tuesday, following the July 13 assassination attempt of Trump at a rally.
