  • Former President Donald Trump was injured and one attendee was killed when a man opened fire on a Trump rally in Butler, PA on Saturday. Here's what you need to know:
  • The shooter opened fire a few minutes into Trump's speech. Video shows Trump reaching for the side of his face before ducking behind the lectern as Secret Service agents surrounded him.
  • Trump is reportedly "fine" and says a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear. He says he still plans to attend this week's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
  • Authorities say at least one rally attendee was killed, while two more were critically injured.  
  • The shooter was killed by Secret Service. He was positioned on a rooftop outside the venue, about 130 yards from where Trump was standing. An AR-style rifle was recovered from the scene.
  • The shooter has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, PA, about 35 miles south of Butler. 
  • The FBI says it's investigating the shooting as an "assassination attempt".
  • The FBI has identified the shooter in Saturday's apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
  • The suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, lived in Bethel Park, PA, about 35 miles south of Butler. He graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022.
  • According to reports, Crooks was registered as a Republican but had made a $15 donation to the Democrat-aligned PAC ActBlue in 2021.
  • The upcoming presidential election would have been the first Crooks was eligible to vote in.
  • Investigators believe the AR-style rifle recovered at the scene was purchased by Crooks' father six months ago.  
  • Crooks was shot and killed by Secret Service shortly after the shooting. He was positioned on a rooftop outside the rally venue, roughly 130 yards from where Trump was standing.
