The Justice Department and 16 U.S. states have sued tech giant Apple for allegations of abusing its power as a Monopoly.
The suit claims that Apple prevented smaller companies from using hardware and software, giving customers fewer options when it comes to smartphones.
"Consumers should not have to pay higher prices because companies violate the antitrust laws," Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said in a statement. "If left unchallenged, Apple will only continue to strengthen its smartphone monopoly."
Apple, worth almost $3 trillion, has said it will fight the lawsuit.
