(Elyria) In a Lorain County Courtroom, on what would have been his victim's 27th birthday, 36-year-old James Kimbrough heard Judge Chris Cook sentence him to 31-years to life in prison for the January 2022 shooting death of his ex-girlfriend Milenna Lopez. The murder happened in the parking lot of the McDonald's in Sheffield Village where the 24-year-old mother of four worked as a manager. Earlier this month Kimbrough pleaded guilty to nine felony charges including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, evidence tampering, and gun specifications. After shooting Lopez five times in the parking lot of the restaurant, Kimbrough fled. He was on the run for over a hundred days before his capture.
The prosecution said the killing of Lopez was the culmination of a history of domestic violence. In fact, at the time of the shooting, Kimbrough was out on bond on a domestic charge involving Lopez and awaiting trial. During the victim impact statement phase of sentencing Tuesday, two of Milenna Lopez' young children spoke to the court.
