In a tragic story out of California, a 1-year-old girl is dead after her 3-year-old sibling got a hold of their parents’ gun.
The shooting occurred Monday morning in Fallbrook, which is about 55 miles north of San Diego, authorities say. As the unidentified child was playing with the gun, it discharged -- and the bullet struck his sister in the head, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. She died about an hour later, after she was taken to a nearby hospital, the sheriff’s department reports.
As of late afternoon on Tuesday, no charges had been filed in the case, a sheriff’s spokesman says. “Sheriff’s homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances of the death,” per the spokesman.
