Get Your Phone Ready for Summertime Travel

Your phone is a great resource while on the go, but here are some things to check out during your pre-vacation checklist.

Stuff Your Digital Wallet:

Losing your physical wallet in a catastrophe can be highly disruptive, but if you have credit or debit cards saved to the digital wallet app on your phone, you have a backup for businesses with contactless payment terminals.

Health Insurance:

Check with your healthcare provider to see if they have digital versions of your card in their apps, or simply take a photo so you have the important information handy.

Car Insurance:

Just about every major insurance company has its own mobile app that you can use for filing a claim, getting roadside assistance, and checking policy documents. If you have not installed your provider’s app and set up your account on your phone, do it before you need to use it.

AAA:

If you have AAA, download the app now.

Air Travel:

And if you are mired in air-travel disruptions, your airline’s app helps with flight rebooking. It's also easier to keep track of tickets for your family digitally.

Weather:

When traveling, make sure that you have alerts set up in the weather apps on your phone, like Apple's default weather app, the Google app, or other apps of choice. Your weather app will generally show you the weather for where you're currently, but you might want to add any places you're looking to visit soon to the list of locations in those apps.

Special Weather Tracking Bookmarks:

Track air quality by bookmarking the government website https://www.airnow.gov/

If planning a vacation to areas around the east coast, Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf of Mexico, it might not hurt to take a look at the National Hurricane Center's page at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
