Legendary singer Tina Turner, known for her sultry voice and a string of Platinum hits, has died at age 83.
The news was confirmed on Turner's official Facebook page.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner," the statement said on Facebook. "With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly."
Turner became one of her era's most enduring female artists, with smash hits like "What's Love Got to Do With It?" and memorable movie appearances.
Rolling Stone once named her "one of the greatest singers of all time."
Alongside her ex-husband, Ike Turner, she released hits such as "River Deep – Mountain High" and "Proud Mary."
Tina Turner, one of only a handful of two time inductees, Turner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo performer in 2021.
Tina found fame in the 1960s as part of the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, which gave us several chart-topping hits and two Grammy awards.
Ike and Tina Turner Revue ended when Tina left Ike after years of domestic abuse.
The legendary singer made a remarkable comeback in the 1980s and went on win six more Grammy’s and her 1988 show in Rio de Janeiro drew 180,000 people, which remains one of the largest concert audiences for any single performer.
Tina retired from show business in 2008, married her husband Bach, and became a citizen of Switzerland.
Tina said a final farewell to fans in the 2021 documentary ‘Tina’ and passed away “peacefully” after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.
