Cavs and City of Cleveland Unveil Thirteenth Refurbished Gymnasium

CLEVELAND - Families in Cleveland’s Gunning Neighborhood have a refreshed space to spend time in this summer, thanks to the Cleveland Cavaliers and The City of Cleveland. The two organizations officially unveiled their latest refurbished gymnasium on Wednesday, May 10th, hosting a grand opening celebration at Gunning Park Resource and Recreation Center.

The project is part of the Cavs ongoing commitment to supporting the development and well-being of youth in the Northeast Ohio community. The refurbished multi-purpose gymnasium features two full-size basketball courts, a full-size volleyball court, and pickleball courts.

Representatives from the Cavs and officials from the City of Cleveland formally opened the fully remodeled space. Cleveland Cavaliers, Rock Entertainment Group and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse CEO Nic Barlage were joined by Cavs Legend Campy Russell, Council President Blaine A. Griffin, Ward 16 Councilman Brian Kazy, Ward 17 Councilman Charles Slife, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Sam Gissentaner and Gunning Center Manager Carlitos Torres.

Following a press conference and official ribbon cutting, youth and community members participated in a basketball clinic led by Cavs Academy coaches with neighborhood youth and a kickboxing class with community members. Cavs in-arena host Ahmaad Crump emceed the event and Cavs entertainment teams featuring DJ Steph Floss, 216 Stix, the Scream Team and PowerHouse Dance Team joined the celebration.

Gunning is the 13th Neighborhood Recreation & Resource Center that the Cavaliers and the City of Cleveland have renovated since 2018. Turner, Estabrook, Glenville, Sterling, Thurgood, Clark, Cory, Michael Zone, Zelma George, and Kovacic
