State regulators say a new area code is heading our way now that the 440 area code is expected to run out of available phone numbers in approximately two years.
On Wednesday, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved a plan to canopy a new area code over the already existing 440 area code which is about to be totally worn out by Q3 of 2024. After that, a new, undetermined area code will be implemented. If you currently have a 440 area code you will keep it.
All of this is due to the telecommunications boom and the increased need for second lines, cell phones, computers etc. Because of this, the 440 area code has been exhausted.
