COLUMBUS - Republican J.D. Vance defeated Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan in the U.S. Senate race in Ohio. Vance will take over the seat being vacated by Senator Rob Portman, who decided not to seek re-election. He garnered more than 53% of the vote.

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Vance. Trump threw his support to Vance first during the Ohio Primary race in 2021 and actively campaigned in Ohio for Vance in the last few weeks.

Vance wrote about his life in the best-selling book “Hillbilly Elegy” which later became a popular Netflix series. He will be sworn in when the new Congress is seated in January. It was the first time he ran for political office.
