CLEVELAND - On Tuesday Morning, Mayor Justin M. Bibb administered the oath of office to Anthony P. Luke as the Cleveland Division of Fire Chief. Chief Luke will immediately assume the Chief of Fire duties, serving as Cleveland’s 17th Fire Chief.

“I am thrilled that Anthony Luke will continue to serve our community in this critical role,” Mayor Bibb said. “His strong leadership, experience with change management, and his commitment to the residents of Cleveland make him the best candidate for this job.”

Chief Luke was appointed to the Cleveland Division of Fire on Feb. 14, 1994. He began his career as a Fire Fighter on Engine 7 and has worked in various suppression and staff assignments. Chief Luke was promoted to lieutenant in 1997, a captain in 2007, battalion chief in 2012, and assistant chief in 2017.

As an assistant chief, Luke has worked as Chief of Staff, implementing numerous improvements in information technology, dispatching, and communications. Chief Luke’s last assignment was as executive officer, the second in command of the Division of Fire, where he handled discipline, personnel, and payroll and assisted Interim Fire Chief Eric Burchak.

Chief Luke is married with two adult children.

“This is a great honor,” said Luke. “I thank Mayor Bibb for the opportunity to lead our great Division. I will work daily to ensure Cleveland Fire efficiently provides the highest level of service by fulfilling and expanding our mission.”
