UPDATE : Elyria Police Identified Body found in Black River

ELYRIA - Police have identified the body found in the Black River on Wednesday, July 27th. The body is that of Deontae Mason, a 29 - year - old from Detroit, Michigan.

The body was discovered in the Black River near the East Bridge street bridge on Wednesday, July 27th. The Elyria Fire departments Water rescue team recovered the body from the water.

Detectives have identified the man as 29 - year - old Deontae Mason of Detroit, Michigan. Mason was reported missing to the Detroit Police Department on July 22nd.

Elyria Police Department said in a statement that Deontae had been stopped the day before by The State Highway patrol.

Detectives have confirmed that Deontae was stopped on the Ohio Turnpike by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on July 21st, 2022, around 6:30 p.m. Following the traffic stop, Deontae was transported and dropped off at the Get Go Gas Station located at 559 Midway Blvd., Elyria. Around 7:30 p.m., Deontae was last observed on surveillance footage, leaving Get Go walking eastbound on Midway Blvd.

Elyria Police Department Detective Bureau and the Lorain County's Coroner's Office are looking into the death of Deontae Mason, and anyone with information or recent interactions with Deontae should call Detectives.
