Suspect Found in Search For SUV That Hit Three People, Killing A 3-Year-Old

(Cleveland) - Cleveland Police have arrested the suspect they say drove an SUV which hit three people Thursday evening, killing a three-year-old. The three were on bicycles about 10:08 p.m. at Track Road and Lufkin Avenue in Slavic Village. The three, two children and an adult, were riding their bicycles southbound, while the SUV was headed northbound. The front end of the SUV hit all three bicycles. The SUV driver then left the scene.

All three were taken to the hospital, where the three-year-old was pronounced dead. The other girl, age 10, and the man, age 27, had minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicated the SUV was a gold Cadillac Escalade, and the driver is apparently a white male, in his 40s or 50s. The photos above are of the suspect vehicle.

In a statement, Mayor Justin Bibb said, “I was deeply saddened to learn of this tragedy and offer my prayers and condolences to the family. There are no words to adequately express such a tremendous loss, This is the third child recently hit and killed by a car in the City of Cleveland. And, once again, the driver who committed this horrific crime fled the scene. Traffic fatalities continue to be a problem in our city, but we believe this is a solvable problem. One traffic fatality is one too many. If you drive in the City of Cleveland, I urge you to slow down, pay attention, and help us make our streets safer. If you witness dangerous driving, please report it.”
