Horse Drowns At MGM Northfield Park Track-Fence Being Built Around Pond

CLEVELAND - MGM Northfield Park is building a fence around a water retention pond after a horse drowned Monday night at the track. The horse, 2-year-old Alfred Hanover ran in the Buckeye Stallion Series finishing second. After the race, he broke away from his handler and ran into the retention pond.

The rest of the races were cancelled on Monday night and races were also cancelled on Tuesday.

Alfred Hanover was from Burke Stables in Pennsylvania. Ron Burke was named the Dam Patch Award winner in 2011, 2013 and 2018. He was elected into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2021.
