Nearly four months after a "mystery rocket" crashed into the moon, scientists at NASA are still at a loss in explaining where it came from.
Scientists with the space agency first spotted the body of the rocket hurling through space late last year, a few months before it made impact on the moon in March. The crash was the confirmed by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which sent back photos showing a 90-foot-wide double crater that resulted from the impact, NASA officials say.
And that's what has scientists so confused. Rockets manufactured on Earth have a large mass at one end; however, the double crater seems to indicate the rocket had a large mass at each end, according to NASA. "Since the origin of the rocket body remains uncertain, the double nature of the crater may indicate its identity," reads a statement from NASA.
