(Cleveland) - Various reports say that equity investor and sports team owner David Blitzer has purchased a minority share of the Cleveland Guardians. The announcement was made by Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred at the end of an owners meeting in New York. There has been no comment yet from the Guardians.
Guardians majority owner Paul Dolan has been looking for a minority owner since previous minority owner John Sherman bought controlling interest of the Kansas City Royals. Dolan acknowledged in December that the Guardians had "meaningful discussions" with Blitzer.
Blitzer will be purchasing 25-30% of the Guardians, and will have an option to purchase a majority of the team. He is already a minority owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils.
