COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The matchup in the race for Ohio Governor in November includes a historic nomination.
In the Democrat primary, former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley bested former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley, to take the nomination. It's the 1st time ever that a woman has been nominated by a major political party to run for Ohio Governor.
For the Republicans, incumbent Governor Mike DeWine easily won a contested primary. DeWine will run for a 2nd term this November.
DeWine was challenged within his own party, over the COVID-19 lockdowns, and methods of attracting new businesses to the state.
Prior to being elected Governor in 2018, DeWine also served as Ohio Attorney General, US Senator, and member of the US House of Representatives.
