Guardians Fall to Mariners 3-2 in Goodyear, Arizona

Cleveland dropped their Cactus League game in Goodyear on Thursday, 3-2, to the Seattle Mariners.

CAL QUANTRILL (2.0IP, 0H, 0R, 1SO) made his first spring start of 2022 and was sharp of two scoreless frames, retiring all six batters he faced. JUSTIN GARZA and ALEX YOUNG added scoreless frames before the Mariners plated two runs in the top of the 8th inning to erase a 2-1 Guardians lead on a two-run double from Billy Hamilton off TOBIAS MYERS (2.0IP, 2H, 2R/ER), who was also making his spring/club debut.

Offensively, Cleveland was held to five hits on the day, getting a solo home run from DANIEL JOHNSON in the second inning and an infield, RBI single from FRANMIL REYES in the sixth that scored MYLES STRAW from second base.

Cleveland will travel across the valley on Friday to take on San Francisco in Scottsdale at 1:05 PM MST/4:05 PM EDT. RHP AARON CIVALE will make his 2022 Cactus League debut against RHP Anthony DeSclafani for the Giants. The game can be heard via Giants radio on MLB.com.
