GOODYEAR, AZ - The Guardians have signed catcher Luke Maile to a 2022 Major League contract. Maile, 31, split the 2021 season in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, appearing in 15 games with the NL Central Division Champions while being a member of their National League Division Series roster vs. Atlanta.
He has appeared in 231 Major League games with Tampa Bay, Toronto and Milwaukee since debuting with the Rays in 2015, missing all of the shortened 2020 season due to a fractured finger suffered with Pittsburgh in Summer Camp. He has thrown out 29% of would-be base stealers in his career (38-of-131) and his 20 Defensive Runs Saved from 2016-19 were tied for 12th among all Major League catchers over the four-year span.
The Edgewood, KY native was Tampa Bay’s eighth round selection in the 2012 MLB Draft out of the University of Kentucky.
