Mayor Bill de Blasio is implementing a first-in-the-nation coronavirus vaccine mandate for all private sector employees in New York City.
He made the announcement on MSNBC. The mandate comes as daily coronavirus cases rise in the Big Apple, the weather gets colder, prompting more indoor gatherings, and concerns of the new variant. The mayor says he's very concerned about the omicron [variant and is assuming community spread in the city.
The rule includes having to show proof of vaccination for indoor activities, dining, and gyms. The mayor says the city will work with the business community on mandate enforcement. The rule goes into effect December 27th.
